Several people asked for the ability to make Scrippet text bold, italic, and underlined. Well, ask and you shall receive.
First, upgrade to Scrippets 1.1, now available for WordPress and bbPress (vBulletin upgrade is still in the works).
I’ve included both Markdown-style mark up and BBCode-style tags. Sooooo…
To add bold text, wrap your text in double asterisks [...]
A version of A-ha’s ‘Take on Me’ where the lyrics are changed to literally describe the action in the video. Brilliant.
YouTube link.
It’s pretty amazing how great this song can be, even with completely different lyrics. I miss the 80’s.

My work on Scrippets got me interested in finishing some WordPress plugins I had on the back burner.
The first of these plugins I’d like to share with you is AutoCap.
The Problem
— I like pictures.
Since the inception of this blog I’ve been using pictures with captions. In the beginning I had to input this all [...]
Finally, Netflix has released an API. Huuzah!
What this means for us is that application developers will be able to easily and consistently build connections between their apps and Netflix. For example, I would expect a WordPress plugin that sticks your queue in the sidebar in about a day or so.

Typography for Lawyers is an online guide intended to help educate lawyers about good typography. Written by Matthew Butterick, a type designer-turned-lawyer, the site is full of really great rules and ideas that a non-lawyer could benefit from knowing. He even includes many useful keyboard shortcuts and application specific work-arounds (how to add paragraph marks [...]
The court says I need to do something worthwhile for the community, and with NaNoWriMo quickly approaching I thought this would be a good time to share some of my hard earned writing know-how with the public. Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about writing, I figured I’d show you how to make a novel template [...]
Ever since Khoi Vinh brought attention to the end credits of The Bourne Ultimatum I’ve been hyper-aware of the way credits are presented. It’s a sickness, really. I mention this because the opening credit sequence to the Luke Wilson/Kate Beckinsale thriller Vacancy is a typographic tour de force. Each credit is displayed on screen, then [...]
Neely Tucker, writing (hilariously) for the Washington Post, tells the story of Mona Shaw’s retaliation against Comcast’s shitty customer service:
Mona demands to speak to a manager. A customer service representative says someone will be right with them. Directs them to a bench, outside. (Remember, it’s mid-August.) Mona and Don sit.
Tick, tick, tick, goes the clock. [...]
Sucks to be in Tokyo, because you could get attacked at any time.
Asoka, in response to me asking why Godzilla only attacks Tokyo.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: scientists are fucking nuts. Case in point, James Watson, Nobel laureate for the elucidation of the DNA double helix (which was, you know, kinda important), is going around saying black people are stupid.
Now, sure, this seems really bad and mind numbingly stupid, but you have [...]
I almost forgot, playing on the screen across from the The Kingdom’s was the next film I have to see:
I have no idea what Assass of is about, or who the stars of Assass of are, but by God am I super freakin’ excited to experience Assass of!
Me thinks it was someone’s last day on [...]
As previously noted, I had zero interest in seeing the film The Kingdom until I saw the amazing opening credit sequence, at which point it went on my must-see list. It has since been moved to my have-seen list…
Let me start off by saying that the opening credit sequence is even more powerful on the [...]
Great White Snark notes that Marvel’s replacement to the recently deceased Captain America is now armed with a gun (and seems to be wearing a costume that’s coated in baby oil). GWS also notes that this runs counter to the ideals of the original character:
The original (and the best) Captain America had a strict no-killing [...]
I can’t really explain it, but I find this photograph to be absolutely captivating.
It’s from the Wikipedia article on compact fluorescent lamps (which seem totally great) and was taken by Quintote, and posted under a Creative Commons license.
Maybe I’m just a sucker for pretty lights.
Apparently, in the state of California there is an issue with having the license plate number “GO 2 11″; one which requires a formal petition. Here’s an excerpt from the letter:
Third: to the extent that the substantive basis for the complaint hinges on the factually and biblically unsupported assertion that the number eleven (”11″) signifies [...]
Got thirteen minutes to spare and want a good laugh? Watch the following video:
Did you spot all the porcelain deer?
If you’re a fan of the comic “Red Meat” — as I am — then you might enjoy Build Your Own Meat, a site that allows you to easily create your own “Red Meat” comic.
Here’s a sample:
Of course, nothing beats the real deal.
That is to say: the episode was incredibly boring to watch — bordering on mind-numbingly so — yet if you make a list of what happened it sounds totally awesome. Let’s review:
We find out D.L. ((Contrary to what I wrote in my previous post, I do support putting periods in the abbreviations of names.)) is [...]
[Update: Yes, I misspelled the word "Nobel" a couple of times (since corrected). I blame that mistake on my being in the process of learning how to type using the Dvorak keyboard layout, which has turned out to be brutally difficult to do, and has majorly decreased my typing ability. Also, I'm an idiot.]
The winners [...]
The site deputydog.com has a list of mindblowing artists and their artwork.

Crazy.
You know those awesome Nintendo Wii commercials? The song that’s playing in the commerical is titled “Kodo - Inside the Sun Remix” and it’s by the Yoshida Brothers. Also, it’s available on iTunes.
Awesome!
Ten minutes ago I had zero interest in seeing the film The Kingdom. Now, after watching the 4 minute opening credits twice, I can’t not see it. It covers the history of the U.S. involvement in Saudi Arabia in a gorgeous, though disturbing, way.
Screenshots don’t do it justice. Just watch the video.
Found due to [...]
